When informed by our charter agent, Louise at Ocean Marine Group, that the boat we had chartered for a Royal Yacht Squadron cruise in Thai waters had been incommoded by an unscheduled meeting with a rock, we felt sure we would never find anything comparable. How wrong we were because Ocean Marine had managed to persuade the owner of “Aspiration” to charter her at short notice.

I doubt that any other yacht or Crew could have given us such an enjoyable week. As Commodore of The Squadron it was important that we were able to fly my broad pennant from the masthead but “Aspiration” had no masthead halyard. This was no problem for Captain Mick Cotter who had the whole thing sorted in moments and from then on conducted flag etiquette in an exemplary fashion.

Wherever we went we were given interesting background to the area and the people and Mike’s wife, Som, who is a Thai national, helped enormously in that regard. Som was also a great chef and treated us to many delightful meals, often including exotic Thai cuisine.

Nothing was too much trouble for the charming crew under Micks’ command and I could not recommend “Aspiration” and Mick and Som too highly.

As for “Aspiration” itself, she was an outstanding yacht to charter.  We were three guest couples aboard, living in air-conditioned comfort, and under the skilful handling of Captain Mick and his first mate, we enjoyed hours of sailing on this magnificent yacht. One evening, we entertained 45 for drinks on board and both the boat and the staff rose to the occasion. An added bonus was Captain Mick took photos of our activities throughout the day and treated us to a video show each evening with a usb stick at the end to take away our memories.

Thank you for a fantastic trip to the Andaman Islands (India). The chef works really hard to prepare amazing food capped off by fresh caught sushi which was just out of this world. Our skipper together with the first mate made us feel all relaxed and encourage those who are interested in participating in sailing and made us feel very welcome. Aspiration is an amazing example of a super yacht and it was a privilege to feel a part of her glorious past.

Our two day voyage to the Andaman Islands (India) sailing at over 10 knots on Aspiration was sheer magic. We visited a number of remote islands lush with green jungle surrounded by layers of cobalt blue waters. Swimming and snorkeling in pure fresh air, exercising and relaxing on Aspiration’s beautiful teak deck and savoring the chefs’ delicious and healthy cuisine – ranging from sophisticated Western dishes, authentic Thai to fresh tuna sashimi (caught by crew!), I feel like I had the best pampering experience ever! Marvelous sailing skill of experienced crew making Aspiration glide through all kinds of weather as gracefully as a Swan!

We so much enjoyed our trip to the Surins and Myanmar. A great sail out from Phuket hitting 14knots boat speed arriving to the tranquility of untouched nature, seeing dolphins as we arrived on the Myanmar border. We hardly saw any people or fishing boats during entire voyage and felt we were exploring an entirely untouched area. We loved the comfort, space and beauty of Aspiration, both above and below decks along with amazing sailing experience. We will be back!!!
